Contrast Effect in Evaluating Sensation of Presence for Wide Field-of-View

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) To evaluate the relationship between display-viewing angle and the sense of presence, two experiments were conducted, in which the display-viewing angle (ranging from 30 degrees to 100 degrees) was manipulated as a between- and within-subjects factor, respectively. Two hundred subjects participated in both experiments. In the within-subjects evaluation, presence scores increased as the field of view widened, while those in the between-subjects evaluation either did not increase or decreased significantly for the wider display-viewing angles.
