Ultra-Wideband Wavelength Conversion Using Cascaded SOA-Based Wavelength Converters by Means of Nonlinear Polarization Rotation

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) All-optical wavelength conversion by using semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) must play a significant role to extend the available wavelength bands. In future photonic networks, especially metro/access ones, over 1000 channel wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems using the whole low-loss bandwidth of silica optical fiber will be required. Thus, it is very important to realize all-optical wavelength converter with ultra-wide operating wavelength range. In this work, we demonstrate, for the first time, an ultra-wideband wavelength conversion over 300 nm of non-return-to-zero (NRZ) signal by means of nonlinear polarization rotation with a simple configuration.
