The present report addresses the problem on motor command representation. Based on the framework where every motor command pattern is represented by a weighted-sum of base patterns with time-shifts, the author discusses the optimality of parameters (weights and time-shifts) and basis, in relation to the recent feature extraction model of visual system. Included topics are synergy decomposition, task optimization and sparse coding. Based on this disuccsion, the author proposes a new optimization criterion consisting of a "task optimization" term and a "parameter preference" term, and points out that this criterion can be utilized for solving the motor planning problem and for explaining characteristic features of human motor behavior. A computer-simulated experiment
using a single-joint arm model shows that the generated trajectory satisfies Fitts’law, supporting the above view. |
