Impact of Logical and Physical Network Topologies on the Delay Performance of Overlay Routing

(in English) In overlay networks such as P2P network and contents delivery network (CDN),
data is transmitted by overlay routing. The end-to-end delay performance in overlay
networks significantly depends on both logical and physical topology
resulting from overlay routing.
In this paper, we focus on a dumbbell-type network and investigate the impact of
logical and physical topologies on the end-to-end delay in overlay networks,
using a two-layer queueing network model.
Numerical examples show that the bandwidth of the physical link corresponding to the congested path
on the logical network level significantly affects the end-to-end delay performance.
