A recent trend in routing research is the use of overlay routing to improve end-to-end QoS without changing the network level architecture. The key of this technology is to find an alternative route that can avoid congested routes, using an overlay network. So far, we have reported that a small number of overlay nodes can offer optimal alternative routes to a large number of end-to-end pairs through actual measurement data analysis.
In this paper, utilizing this characteristic, we develop a cost-efficient overlay routing alrogithm that works well under the constraint that the number of alternative route candidates is limited. We also show that the proposed algorithm can achieve almost the same performance as when we used all possible alternative route candidates. |
