Study on expansion of communication range in passive RFID tag with multiple antenna

(in English) Passive PFID tags extract power from a transmitting signal of R/W device and communicate with R/W device utilizing load modulation technique. For a purpose of extracting power, passive RFID tags should employ matched load. On the other hand, load impedance of the passive RFID should be largely changed from the matched load in order to achieve adequate modulation index. Namely, the passive RFID tags with signal antenna has trade off between the power extraction and the modulation index. In this paper, we present a passive RFID tag with multiple antennas and show detail performance evaluation results. In this configuration, one is a antenna for modulation, and the other is for power extraction. The antenna for power extraction has matched load and this is a fixed value. The antenna for modulation has short and open stage. We show this method can extend a communication range.
