A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with a strip of parasitic element on the upper surface was excited with a slot and the resulting radiation characteristics were analyzed. The research objective is to clarify the effect of parasitic element for the generation of circularly polarized wave, and a numerical analysis using finite element method has been conducted on the circularly polarized wave characteristics for a variation of angles to arrange the parasitic element, the length of the parasitic element and the size of the dielectric resonator. The effect of each parameter on the amplitude and phase difference of the electric field has been clarified quantitatively by means of the numerical analysis, paying attention to the orthogonal component of the far field. An effective combination of parameter values has been selected to obtain a good axial ratio based on the result of the analysis. As a result of improved axial ratio using those selected parameters, axial ratio of 0.21 dB was obtained in the zenith direction. |
