A “Spatial Division Duplex” Relaying Approach for MIMO Relay Networks

(in English) Since the recent information theory has shown that the use of multiple nodes to simultaneously relay messages can further improve the capacity of source-to-destination communication, MIMO relay networks are receiving more attentions as one of promising coverage extension techniques. However, in such schemes, each relay node is required to receive and transmit in two different time slots (half duplex) to avoid interference from other relays, resulting in a capacity loss by 50%.
In this paper, we try to mitigate the capacity loss by a proposed Spatial Division Duplex approach where two groups of relays respectively transmit and receive messages simultaneously and cancel interferences between relays. The numerical results confirm that our method outperforms the conventional schemes especially in line-of-sight (LOS) environment at a relatively high SNR.
