We evaluate the adaptive modulation technique where transmission rate is controlled by the quality of eigenmode in the E-SDM method for MIMO systems.
In this case, we must control transmit resource, that is, modulation scheme and power allocation of substreams in order to maximize throughput for each packet.
In this paper, particularly, for the purpose of implementation, we propose a simple technique of the transmit resource control.
This technique is extended and generalized version of the simplified technique that we have already proposed for 2 $\times$ 2 MIMO systems, and is accommodated with any number of antenna elements.
The proposed technique enables an appropriate transmit resource control by simple calculations with eigenvalues derived from the channel information and noise power of a receiver, while a conventional technique demands complex calculations of the throughput for all possible combinations of modulation schemes.
Additionally, the results of computer simulations show that the performance of the proposed technique does not degrade comparing with that of the conventional one in the whole SNR region, although the simplification is valid for higher SNR. |
