Discovering the Effective Pricing Strategy for Maximizing Store Profits -- PRISM --

(in English) The objective of this paper is to introduce a system and process for maximizing store profits based on a purchase prediction model using large quantities of customer purchase data for individual respondent purchases and taking into account related products tending to be purchased on the same purchasing occasion. This system, called PRISM, involves the use of data mining technology and the use of massive amounts of individual customer purchase data to create the purchase prediction model together with a heuristic approach to maximization of store profit by discovering the combination of products and prices that lead to a given maximization. In the course of this paper, we will discuss the use of customer purchase data of supermarket in Japan and the discovery of specific combinations of products and price levels that lead to store profit maximization and will clarify the utility of PRISM in actual situations within retail outlets where these extracted pricing patterns were used.
