Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE) Using Estimate of Observation Noise Variance in Wireless Sensor Networks

(in English) Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE) is one of the decentralized estimation method in sensor networks. When fusion center (FC) has the knowledge of observation noise variance of each sensor, the BLUE can estimate the observation event with high accuracy by weighting the received values by observation noise variance of each sensor. However, it is not practical to assume that FC always knows all the observation noise variances. In this report, we propose the method to estimate the observation noise variances at fusion center, and present the performance of BLUE with the estimated variances of observation noise. We show that the BLUE with the estimated observation noise variances achieves almost the same bit error rate (BER) as the conventional BLUE with perfect knowledge of the observation noise variances.
