A New QoS Differentiation Scheme in Optical Burst Switching with On-the-fly Path Setup Mechanism

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we propose a new QoS differentiation scheme based on on-the-fly path setup mechanism that can support the multiple bursts transmission. Data Grid and CD/DVD delivery are considered as major applications in OBS (Optical Burst Switching) networks. These applications require the different QoS; multiple bursts are required to be transmitted certainly. In our proposed scheme, the first burst of multiple bursts tries to on-the-fly path setup, when the required QoS of the flow meets a requirement for using a path. Following bursts are transmitted along the path, and the last burst releases it. Temporary path makes it possible to transmit multiple bursts assuredly. By computer simulations, we show that our proposed scheme can achieve a QoS differentiation of burst loss rate and flow loss rate, and can reduce the average burst loss 50\%.
