A Consideration on MSAs with Electromagnetic Band Gap structure

(in English) The characteristics of a microstrip array antenna (MSAA) with electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure were investigated in this study. The basic designing techniques for the antenna with EBG elements are also presented in this paper. Several models for the EBG structure were presented and simulated using electromagnetic simulator based on the moment method to evaluate the performance of the EBG element. The results of simulation showed that the test EBG structures are effective for the suppression of surface wave and parallel plate mode. Moreover, it was shown that the test MSAAs with EBG elements suppress the mutual coupling between element antennas by the effect of EBG structure. This type of an MSAA with EBG elements is, therefore, considered to be an effective model for a planar array.
