Antagonistic mechanism of infraspinatus and subscapularis actuators during humerus elevation on the scapular plane in shoulder-movement simulator, “SKN”

(in English) Numerous researchers have studied the mechanism of human joint movements, both in the anatomical and physiological fields. The entire control mechanisms of joint, especially shoulder joint, are not completely clarified yet. To overcome this, robotized simulators, which have physiological knowledge of joint movements incorporated within, have been developed. However, there are few reports about the robotized simulator of the shoulder joint. We have been developing the shoulder-movement simulator, "SKN". In our previous study, our simulator elevated its humerus without dislocation. However, as the angle of humeral elevation was increased, the position of humerus deviated from the scapula plane greatly. To improve this problem, we added the infraspinatus and subscapularis actuators with antagonistic mechanism in our simulator. The result showed that the horizontal adduction / horizontal abduction angles were reduced during humeral elevation.
