Discrimination of Heart Rate Spectrum Pattern with Entropy

(in English) The heart rate variability (HRV) analysis is known as a noninvasive mean to assess activities of autonomic nerve system and extensively utilized for clinical diagnoses as well as man-machine user interface or stress evaluations. The band analysis of the power spectrum (LF, HF, and LF/HF power analysis) has been the standard method. A lot of time domain indices such as SDNN, SDANN, and NN50 have been proposed as simplified indices to characterize HRV. This paper attempts to utilize an entropy measure in frequency domain for more precise characterization of the HRV. The real data analysis revealed that the proposed entropy measure could differentiate some autonomic nervous activity states which cannot be achieved by the traditional frequency band analysis.
