Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Many road sign detection and recognition techniques from car mounted
camera images are proposed. These techniques require a certain high resolution of input images for recognition. Thus, in case that earlier recognition is required, waiting for getting a suitable resolution image for recognition is undesirable. In addition, these are not in consideration of occlusions by street trees etc.
In this paper, a novel technique for road sign recognition is
proposed. This uses a superposed image from series of low resolution images obtained by detecting and tracking a road sign in successive frames. In comparison to traditional techniques that process on each single frame images, earlier and robust road sign recognition is achieved by this technique. Moreover, this technique is robust to temporary occlutions.
