A trial of analyzing an acoustic signal by time-frequency analysis -- Introduction of Copula-based positive time-frequency distribution --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Various methods have been proposed to investigate the property of acoustic signals. Especially, a time -frequency analysis which can treat both properties in a time and frequency domains is very often utilized as a powerful analyzing tool. The usual time-frequency analysis method (e.g., spectrogram(short-time Fourier transform), Wigner distribution, Choi-Williams distribution), however, have the indeterminacy relationship between time and frequency. The energy distribution in time-frequency analysis doesn't satisfy all conditions for a non-negaitive distribution. In this report, the Copula-based positive time-frequency distribution is introduced which satisfy the marginal condition and so on, and resultantly it can be expected to improve the resolution of time and frequency simultaneously in comparison with Spectrogram. More concretely, we analyze a musical sound with the Copula-based positive time-frequency distribution. Spectrogram is adopted here as the template of transformation based on Copula. It is found that Copula-based Positive time-frequency distribution can enhance the resolution of both time and frequency rather than the Spectrogram.
