Three Dimensional Lung Modeling from Sequential MR Images Based on Respiratory Motion Analysis

(in English) This paper discusses an algorithm for reconstruction of the 3D spatio-temporal lung modeling from asynchronized sequences of MR images. First, the proposed method extracts the respiratory motion by detecting the presence of the respiratory pattern on 2D spatio-temporal images. This approach enables us to determine the thoracic organ’s contour movement even on frames with obscure or disappeared edges. Synchronizing out-of-phase sagittal sequences for various sections with a single coronal sequence, it is possible to reconstruct the 3D thoracic organs. Finally, a B-Rep solid model is created, guaranteeing that there are no holes. Experimental results for evaluating the proposed method are also shown.
