Calibration of the EMI Antenna using a Calculable Loop Antenna

(in English) Loop antennas used for EMI measurements at frequencies below 30 MHz have been generally calibrated with the Standard Field Method, where a standard loop antenna generates a well-defined magnetic field at an antenna under calibration. For this antenna calibration, the present paper newly develops a calculable loop antenna and an associated calibration system. The antenna consists of a loop element and a 180 degrees hybrid junction. This antenna can be used as a standard transmit antenna as well as a standard receive antenna. Thus, it is applicable to various calibration methods as well as the Standard Field Method, such as Standard Antenna Method and Three-Antenna Method, which can improve the accuracy of the antenna calibration.
The calibration system is proposed for the Standard Field Method, where the proposed calculable antenna is used as a standard transmit antenna. The strength of the generated field is accurately evaluated by measuring the reflection coefficient and the power supplied to the transmit antenna. To verify the validity of this calibration system, we performed other calibration methods, namely, Standard Antenna Method and Three-Antenna Method. The results on the antenna factors obtained by these methods are found to agree well within 1 dB in entire the frequency range from 1 MHz up to 30 MHz, which proves the promising potential of the proposed antenna and calibration system.
