Adaptive Dispersion Compensation to Minimize Time Domain Waveform Error by Using Gradient Method

(in English) In present optical communications, chromatic dispersion is one of the primary factors which set upper limits on transmission distance and speed. Therefore a lot of dispersion compensating techniques and devices have been investigated. But most of these techniques are not adaptive. This fact will become a big problem in all optical routing whose transmission route changes frequently. In this paper, a novel adaptive control technique of variable dispersion compensator is proposed and verified. In this technique, first of all, error function is derived from output signal waveform in time domain. Then variable dispersion compensator is controlled toward minimizing error function by means of gradient method with appropriate approximation. This technique reduces system costs and offers high speed compensation because an exact measurement of dispersion characteristics is needless for controlling a dispersion compensator.
