A microphone array system for binaural hearing is a promising technique that can reduce the disturbance of distracting sound and facilitate merits of binaural hearing effects for hearing impaired listeners. The system should be able to realize proper interaural level and time differences for sounds coming from specified directions while suppressing ambient noises. We have developed a new design method for this purpose with multiple-constraints and that exploiting the weighted least squares algorithm. This report presents a review of the algorithms and tries examining their performance in terms of directivity pattern, interaural level difference (ILD) and interaural time difference (ITD). Computer simulations show that they succeeded in realizing valid interaural level and time differences for the specified directions while suppressing ambient noises when using the weighted least squares algorithm. |
