A Performance Evaluation on The New Adaptive RED with Dynamically Controlled Update Interval of Maximum Packet Drop Rate
Yoshio Sugizaki, Koichi Asatani (Kogakuin Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) DiffServ (Differentiated Services) that guarantees QoS in the Internet
is being studied.
Adaptive RED is one of the technologies related to DiffServ.
Adaptive RED sets "Target" for average queue size (avg).
It updates maxp with the prescribed interval and tries to keep the average queue size equal to Target.
The qualities of the real time services such as voices and video are improved since the queuing delay variations are set to be small.
The convergence time of avg varies with interval.
Therefore, the performance of Adaptive RED is affected by interval.
It is difficult to set beforehand the optimum value of interval to be
influenced by parameters and network traffic conditions.
We proposed a New Adaptive RED and showed the performance of that the proposed scheme exceeded Adaptive RED.
In this paper, we point out a problem of Adaptive RED, that avg
doesn't converge to Target under certain parameter ,and network traffic
conditions.
We confirm that the proposed scheme shows the convergence of avg to Target under such conditions.
