Evaluation of the Mitral Valve Structure Using Realtime 3D Echocardiography

(in English) We aimed to clarify the configuration of the mitral annulus using real-time three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography. The structure of the mitral annulus is detected using only four points plotted by an echocardiologist. The base point is the coordinates of spline interpolated using the four points. The mitral annulus is estimated using a template matching by the base point. The detected annulus was compared with the plotted position by the echocardiologist. Mean error was about 2 mm. This method would be useful in diagnosis and decision of the surgical strategy for the mitral valve diseases.
