Steady-State Characteristics in DCM Operation of Improved Buck-Boost PFC Converter

(in English) In the conventional boost-type PFC converter, its output voltage is much higher than the required low-voltage output, and therefore the 2nd-stage DC-DC converter operates in the condition of a large voltage conversion ratio. This results in a lower power efficiency. On the other hand, in the flyback converter, the voltage conversion ratio can be designed flexibly for the low-voltage output. However, pulse currents through this circuit result in the decrease in power efficiency. From the viewpoint of the above-mentioned conditions, we have proposed a novel PFC converter topology before, where the power efficiency is improved by widening its current-conduction period and decreasing its peak current value.
This paper presents the detailed characteristics of the above PFC converter through simulations and experiments, and describes the efficiency improvement and the compliance with the severer harmonics regulation of IEC 61000-3-2 Class D.
