Space-time block coded transmit/receive diversity using 4 receive antennas for multi-carrier transmissions

(in English) High speed data transmissions are required for the next generation mobile communication systems. However, broadband mobile channel is composed of many propagation paths with different time delays, producing severe frequency-selective fading channel. Recently, multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) has been attracting much attention for the broadband wireless access in the next generation mobile communications systems. MC-CDMA can exploit the channel frequency-selectivity to achieve the frequency diversity gain and improve the transmission performance. Transmit/receive antenna diversity is a well-known technique for further improving the transmission performance in a fading channel. Recently, we proposed the space-time block coded-transmit/receive antenna diversity (STBC-TRD), in which the equalization processing for transmission and reception can be implemented at the one transmit/receive side. However, in the previously proposed STBC-TRD scheme, the number of receive antennas is limited to 2. In this paper, we propose a new transmit encoding for STBC-TRD, which can employ the 4-branch receive antenna diversity. The achievable BER performance is evaluated by computer simulation and is compared with that of joint space-time transmit diversity (STTD) and antenna receive diversity.
