A Study on Classification of Objects in 3D Urban Models

Three-dimensional (3D) urban models come with very large data size and their simplification is often needed for efficient streaming, rendering, and visualization. These urban models consist of a large number of objects of different types, which can be simplified individually to obtain a model of lower resolution. In this paper, we propose classification of these objects into groups of objects having similar geometry and/or texture. This classification leads to efficient handling and storage of data, and facilitates the simplification of the individual objects, as the objects belonging to a certain class can be manipulated using certain techniques suitable to that specific class of objects. |
