Accurate Identification of High-Rate Flows

(in English) The author proposed a novel method named \lq\lq short timeout” that identifies high-rate flows using sampled packets. The short timeout method identifies flows from which two packets are sampled without timeout as high-rate flows. In this paper, we generalize this identification mechanism, i.e., identifying flows from which Y packets are sampled without timeout. We analytically derive the identification probability and clarify that the identification accuracy is improved as Y grows. However, we also find that the increase of Y requires larger memory size and faster processing speed.
