Ethernet is most popular local area network technology, but it does not have a function to guarantee communication quality. On the other hand, video and voice applications, such as IP telephone, video streaming, and video conference, are currently increasing. Although their qualities should be guaranteed, most of the applications do not inform of their status to network equipments. Therefore, we have proposed a bandwidth management system on Ethernet for applications without signaling to networks. It monitors control messages of applications between terminals and gets information required by bandwidth management and allocates bandwidth to video and voice flows. It needs more processing time than the other bandwidth management methods without analyzing control messages. Therefore, we estimated the processing time of the system for two video streaming applications. The experimental results show that the proposed system can process user’s requests within acceptable waiting time. |
