Many high educational institutes including universities are now deploying campus public LAN to enable accessing educational contents in lecture rooms and other areas.
The most important technology of such campus public LAN is authentication, which enables easily accessing legitimate users while appropriately shutting down the accesses from outsiders.
Moreover, such institutes generally have a limitation of the number of operators, so that the operational costs must be kept low.
In this way, security, usability, and operational costs are the requirements of campus public LAN. In this paper, we propose a new authentication method that is an enhancement of a web server in the web captive portal authentication.
Our enhancement allows MAC address authentication per individual users.
Through our developments, we show our proposal meets the requirements. |
