An Effect of Migration Log Losses on the Searching Costs for Mobile Agents

Mobile agents are autonomous programs that can travel across a network in order to accomplish given tasks. They are expected to provide distributed computing and efficient data searching; however, it is difficult to manage their location because of the high autonomy. The two most basic schemes for the location management are direct control by one centralised database and logging scheme, where mobile agents record the migration logs at every host they arrived in order to be tracked by other agents. Our proposed scheme, MLB standing for Migration Log by Base-host, is based on the combination of above two schemes and intended to compensate each disadvantage and make the most of both advantages. In MLB, every mobile agent is tracked from their starting host of the migration logs, called base-host which is controlled by the centralised data-base host, BHMH (Base-Host Management Host). The outcome of MLB is to reduce mobile agents' searching costs without occurring a bottleneck, but MLB partly uses the logging system, accordingly must consider the possibility of loss of migration logs. This paper considers an additional function for the losses, also evaluates the effect of the losses on the searching costs. |
