Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We investigated the potential of graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) for high-speed communication between trains and ground. Our approach uses GI-POF with optimized numerical aperture and reflection plate.
The results of the evaluation of our approach indicate the strongest leaky light angle to be about 70 degrees forward and the best incident position to be the center of the fiber.
The results also show that fiber without scatterers has more stable leaky light performance than fiber with scatterers and that the received leaky light power is improved about 7dB at 30 cm away from fiber with the reflecting plate.
From these results, we can say that the improved method is capable of improving the performance of train communications systems using GI-POF.
