Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The efficiency of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is closely related to the radio propagation characteristics. This paper reveals how each phenomena arising from polarization, antenna pattern, and localization of scatterer affects the characteristics of MIMO channel from the view point of radio propagation analysis, with evaluating in simple models of line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment. MIMO channel capacity is evaluated with using radiation patterns of infinitesimal dipole and dual feed patch antenna. In a calculated LOS model, dual-polarized MIMO gives significantly low spatial correlation, which results in that dual-polarized MIMO achieves higher channel capacity than single-polarized MIMO does. In a calculated NLOS model, single-vertically-polarized MIMO shows the highest channel capacity, since vertical component is more dominant than horizontal component in terms of received power. In such a case with unbalance of received power between vertical and horizontal polarization, it is shown that dual-polarized MIMO doesn’t necessarily work more effectively compared to single-polarized MIMO. In addition, it is also presented that rectangular patch antenna generally gives the higher channel capacity than infinitesimal dipole.
