Waveguide Filter with Multiple Attenuation Poles Using Armed Square-Loop FSS

(in English) We have already developed a waveguide filter with multiple attenuation poles using frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) designed by a genetic algorithm. The design method has the problem in the computation time of the GA and the complexity of the GA-designed elements. So, this paper proposes a new element shape of FSS for designing such a high-performance waveguide filter. From the view point of the geometry, the FSS is called armed square-loop FSS. Introducing such FSSs can realize high skirt selectivity in stopbands at both sides of passband by utilizing anti-resonances (full reflection) of the FSSs without any additional structure. The resonant and the anti-resonant frequencies can be easily controlled by changing the element shape. As a design example, the third-order waveguide filter with six attenuation poles is demonstrated at X band. The validity of the waveguide filter using the proposed armed square-loop FSS is proved from the good agreement between the calculated and the measured results.
