The technique of adiabatic soliton compression using optical fibers, with which a fundamental soliton pulse is compressed as slowly as possible, has been regarded as advantageous for high-quality pulse generation. However, the design guideline is not obvious as follows. Firstly, the requirement for “slowness” is unclear. Secondly, when a non-soliton pulse is used as an input pulse, pedestals are generated even if the compression is sufficiently slow. In this paper, we clarify requirement for the slowness in the adiabatic soliton compression system for pedestal-free pulse compression. Moreover, we numerically study the optimization of a dispersion profile, with which a non-soliton input pulse is converted to a soliton pulse without pedestals. Based on these studies, we show that a soliton pulse train with extremely suppressed pedestals can be obtained even when an optical beat signal is used as an input pulse train. |
