Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, there have been many reports on experimental demonstrations of quantum key distribution (QKD). Most of these demonstrations, however, were performed in laboratories. In this report, we describe a field trial of a quantum cryptosystem over installed fibers of Japan gigabit network II (JGNII). We used a classical channel for synchronization and status-communication for stability of the system as well as a quantum channel for photons. We have successfully demonstrated 96 km transmission between Dojima (Osaka) – Keihanna (Kyoto), and achieved 8.2 bps and quantum bit-error rate of 9.9% at m (average photon number)=0.1 photons/pulse.
