Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose the upstream burst-mode 1.3 m optical amplifier based on a gain-clamped praseodymium-doped fiber amplifier (GC-PDFA) to enlarge the transmission distance between an OLT and ONUs and increase the allowable splitting number of an optical splitter regardless of transmission bit-rates and transmission protocols. We also investigate the optical surge due to the gain dynamics of GC-PDFA for burst mode amplification and confirm the effect of a gain-clamp to suppress optical surges. Moreover, we also show the validity of GC-PDFA for burst mode amplification by estimating the limitation of the upstream transmission distance and the allowable splitting number of optically repeatered PON systems.
