Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Erasure codes based-on XOR operation are promising candidates as FEC (Forward Error Correction) mechanisms for reliable multicast contents distribution over the Internet or mobile networks. Especially LT codes (Luby Transform codes) give higher reliability by expanding the receiving time at each client. Therefore LT codes are effective in the multicast environment where each client has heterogeneous communication quality. However, multicast transmission time can be restricted due to some operational reasons considering multicast resource efficiency so that some retransmission mechanism is required to assure all clients of download completion. In this paper, we propose a unicast retransmission mechanism for multicast contents distribution based on LT codes with such transmission time restriction. We also confirm the efficiency of proposal mechanism applying to LT codes by computer simulation.
