Switching Characteristics of All-Optical Wavelength-Selective Switch Consisting of Waveguide-Type Raman Amplifiers and 3dB Couplers

(in English) We propose a new all-optical switch consisting of waveguide-type Raman amplifiers and 3dB couplers and it enables wavelength-selective high-speed switching for applications to photonic WDM IP packet routing. The operation of the switch is studied by coupled mode theory and is verified numerically using beam propagation method. Switching characteristics taking the wavelength dependency of the 3dB couplers and nonlinearity of the Raman amplifiers into account are also studied. We found that optical waves having arbitrary wavelengths are switched when the amplification rate is set to proper value by pump wave injection. Although phase shift caused by nonlinear refractive index change affects the switching characteristics, we also discuss how to reduce this effect.
