FPGA implementation and performance evaluation of real-time MIMO-MLD usiing simplified metrics

(in English) We developed two types of maximum-likelihood detectors (MLD) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, using an FPGA device. For practical implementations, we introduce two simplified metrics: a Manhattan metric and a correlation metric. The Manhattan metric needs no multiplications, at the cost of slight performance degradation within 1dB. On the other hand, the correlation metric reduces the MLD complexity in multiplications from exponential order to cubic order against the number of antennas, without any performance degradation. The MLD prototypes using the simplified metrics have data processing capability near or over 1Gbps.
