Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we propose and analyze wavelength converters sharing architecture modules using limited range wavelength converters in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) nodes for all-optical networks. Wavelength conversion is required to increase the efficiency of WDM networks. Our interest is to summarize some of the benefits of wavelength converter sharing, as well as to demonstrate some outlines for the choice of conversion limit using different architectures of wavelength converter sharing modules to meet network per-formance goals. Investigation is done to making some comments on the utility of the architectures conducting simulation in terms of fac-tors like cross-connect size, and the number of converters used etc. As the cost of wavelength converters is likely to remain high in near future, our simulation shows the estimates for the aforesaid factors for different architectural modules to support management and investment decisions. Some guidelines for simplifying the node design complexity by introducing the architectural flexibility for an adaptive network evolution process are presented. Simulation results dictate the improvement in packet loss performance by introducing different converter sharing modules in the optical cross-connect for various conversion limits with traffic intensity as parameter.
