Meta-Heuristic Logical Topology Design for Link Failures in IP over WDM Networks
Sugang Xu, Yoshiaki Tanaka (Waseda Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) WDM optical networks represent the direction to future high capacity wide-area network applications. By creating optical paths between nodes in the core networks, logical topology can be created over the physical topology. In this paper we consider the method of designing logical topology in wavelength routed IP networks. For a network operator to achieve logical topology design especially for the fast restoration from large network failures after disasters such as earthquake where logical topology reconfiguration is required, comparing to the performance requirement the computing time of a feasible solution is critical. The exact formulation of the logical topology problem is usually given as Mixed Integer Linear Programming, but it grows intractable with increasing network size. For a fast design we have proposed a new simulated an-nealing approach to determine a better logical topology within a shorter time. For further study on fast logical topology de-sign using meta-heuristics, here we compare simulated annealing with a genetic algorithm. Through performance compari-sons, we show that our proposed simulated annealing approach can design a better logical topology in a shorter time compar-ing to previous simulated annealing and genetic approaches.
