Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this research, we propose a new method for formulating and analyzing a signaling pathway with a focus on enzymes by applying Petri nets. In order to represent the properties of enzymes explicitly, we introduce a new notation “enzyme place” in the Petri net model. With enzyme places, we can give more natural description of signaling pathways than existing methods. Our method effectively finds basic enzymic components of a signaling pathway by employing T-invariants of Petri nets. This paper demonstrates how our method can be used in formulating and analyzing signaling pathways with an example of Interleukin-3 signaling pathway.
