Time-Division-Multiplexed Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor Using Chirped Fiber Bragg Grating

(in English) Recently, optical fiber sensors have attracted much attention in sensing areas.
Advantages of optical fiber sensors are small size, light weight, high temperature performance, large bandwidth as compared to existing sensing techniques.
In optical fiber sensors, fiber bragg grating (FBG) systems have attracted much attention, because FBG can sense multipoint by making some grating in one fiber and have high sensitivity.
One of the serious problems for FBG systems is that the receiver can not distinguish signals from each FBG sensor, because a continuous wave is used as the optical source.
Applying time division multiplex (TDM) to the FBG sensor system is proposed to distinguish signals from each FBG sensor.
TDM FBG sensor system can distinguish signals from each FBG sensor, however, interference signals will occur by a leakage wave from the optical modulator.
Chirped FBG (CFBG), which is used as a dispersion compensator, can change wavelength to delay time according to the central wavelength of the incoming light.
In this report, we propose a TDM FBG sensor system using CFBG to reduce interference signals occuered by a leakage wave from the optical modulator.
We show that the proposed system has a better signal to interference ratio (SIR) than the conventional TDM FBG sensor system.
