A study on seamless handover method using enhanced DHCP

(in English) To reduce a layer 3 handover time and the number of lost packets during a handover (seamless handover), a protocol, Fast Handovers for Mobile IP v6, is proposed in IETF. With FMIP, seamless handover functions must be deployed in access routers (ARs), so it is difficult to add seamless handovers functions to an existing network consisting of a lot of ARs.
In this paper, we propose a new deployment method, with which, the seamless handovers functions are deployed in a DHCP server and a Home Agent that can be shared by multiple ARs, in stead of ARs. Furthermore, we describe other main problems of FMIP and that the proposed method overcomes them.
