Today, IP traffic is exploding because of rapid increase of broadband access, new application and new services. So the growing IP network capacity is required. Besides, IP network becomes more important as communication infrastructure and IP network is required to be high reliance. These requirements increase network resource and network cost. However, network service providers must construct large capacity network economically. While, Recently, GMPLS[1] technology which controls the equipment of both IP network and layer-1 network has come out and it is possible to control both networks in concert with each other.
In this paper, a new multi-layer restoration mechanism based on GMPLS technology is proposed. This mechanism can reduce the redundant resource provided for restoration operation and can reduce network cost, especially in a larger capacity network. The operation of the proposed restoration mechanism is as follows. (a) new layer 1 path is established between spared router interfaces. And (b)setup the IP router protocol on new layer 1 link and IP traffic is rerouted by dynamic IP routing. Also this paper shows the network cost reduction effect by proposed restoration mechanism. |
