Recently, wireless sensor network consisting of a large number of micro sensor devices embedded with
sensor,processor,and communication is attractive.
However, owing to the limitation of energy, memory, and computation,
it is necessary to construct these networks under these constraints.
To save the energy, the censoring sensor transmitting information of its observations only when they are informative and
not transmitting otherwise was proposed.
While the on-off sensor that is either an awake or a sleep (on or off) state is also effective to save the observation energy.
In this report, we derive mutual information of wireless sensor networks with
i) censoring sensors, ii) on-off sensors, and iii) censoring--on-off sensors.
We show that the sensor network with censoring--on-off sensors can always achieve the largest mutual information.
We also show that the sensor networks with censoring--on-off sensors and with on-off sensors achieve larger mutual information than
that with censoring sensors
when the average cost of each sensor is small and the observation cost is large.
Furthermore, we show that
the sensor networks with censoring--on-off sensors and with censoring sensors can achieve the largest mutual information
when the average cost of each sensor is not small and the observation cost is small. |
