An Equivalent circuit model for calculating discharge current in contact with hand-held metal piece from charged human body

(in English) In IEC 61000-4-2, which specifies an immunity test method for electrostatic discharge (ESD), an ESD-gun is used to simulate the ESD events from a charged human body. The gun of this kind injects into a device under test the discharge current through a lumped resistor from a charged lumped capacitor simulating the skin resistance and human-body capacitance, respectively. In actual ESD events from charged human bodies, however, the charge distributed on the body surface is discharged through a spark from the fingertip, and its situation is quite different from that of the ESD gun. To understand the behavior of the above-mentioned discharge current, we have previously measured the current through a hand-held metal piece from a charged human body, and have proposed an equivalent circuit for calculating it from the human-body impedance and time invariant spark resistance. In this study, we show the presence of arc discharges followed by the spark in contact discharge from the charged human body, and present a current calculation model based on a spark resistance formula.
