A study on the shape of a super wide-range microphone:

(in English) This paper describes a new design method for a microphone with a wide frequency range. The frequency range is expanded by two means, using the diffraction due to the microphone's diaphragm, a kind of external resonance, and the resonance of the diaphragm itself. These resonance effects are generally thought to define the upper limit of the frequency range. An omnidirectional, electrostatic microphone that picks up sounds of up to 100kHz with low noise has been developed using this method.
