Distance perception of sound images presented by multi-loundspeakers placed at different distance in front of subject
Reiko Okumura, Kohichi Kurozumi (NHK)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Localization and distance perception of sound images, which are reproduced by single-loudspeaker or multi-loudspeakers in the horizontal plane in front of a subject, are investigated. The listening level and arriving time of sound at listening point are different according to the distance from a subject to a loudspeaker. If the listening level and arriving time at listening point were not compensated for the difference between a subject and loudspeakers, sound images can be localized among the loudspeakers. However, when either listening level or arriving time at listening point is compensated, sound images can not be localized among loudspeakers. Sound images presented by near loudspeakers from a subject can be perceived nearly, and sound images presented by distant loudspeakers from subject can be perceived distantly.
