Reproducibility of Rayleigh Backscattered Waveform from Fibers

(in English) We have proposed a technique for the distributed strain / temperature measurement that uses the jagged appearance in the Rayleigh backscatter trace from a single-mode fiber under coherent light-pulse excitation. This technique works well on the condition that the backscatter trace does not change while the fiber is set in the stable environment. This paper presents experimental results on the stability of the backscatter trace, with an emphasis on the dependence on the temperature, that were measured by using a coherent OTDR with a frequency-stabilized light source. It was confirmed that the backscatter trace is stable for more than 48 hours under a stable (strain-free and constant-temperature) environment.
